My NY Resolution

A bit late and only 1 of them this year: to reduce my carbon footprint by 10%. A challenge indeed as most of my income is generated in places to which I have to drive, train or fly. Solution? on-line training. Have already trialled lessons and staff meeting in Nottingham and this week sorting out the technicalities with Cumran in Northern Ireland. I will hold myself accountable in this blog....10%...10%...

This is a great challenge. How are we going to measure this?
The snow helped this month - as Mike was unable to make one flight ( but then another flight involved a lot of circling of a closed airport and then flying back in the opposite direction to find an open airport). Also there were a few closed schools! But not quite what Mike had in mind.

I also believe in the impact of small changes. Here are some of the small changes we have made in the last month:
Standby:
Replaced sockets, for sockets with switches.
Rearranged how appliances are plugged in.
We can now switch everything off at night easily yet leave the phone switched on.
Printing:
We have a scrap paper box beside the printer, so we can fill one paper tray with scrap for draft documents.
Next Steps:
To use draft print mode, To print double sided.

Mike's Travelling Carbon Footprint for last financial year has just been calculated at 3.37 tonnes/year. We are already half way through this year, with many flights already booked. So we'll start the changes now .. but it maybe next year before we see a change.
