Hacking & Learning

As it unravels further and plays out in all its messy, chaotic detail, I'm struck that this type of significant  'call to thought' is long overdue.

Whether we realise it or not, the phone hacking story has forced personal ethics into our faces. What is integrity? What is trust? What is honesty? What is acceptable behavior? We can't personally avoid these questions when they are so publicly cast before us.

Covey Jnr. helps here. I love his concept of a 'Trust Tax' - the hidden costs to relationships, organisations and nations through lack of trust. Covey even states that schools with high trust are 3 times more likely to raise test scores.

If we can get over the incredulity and the judgment, let's use this awe-full set of events as a prompt to learn about ourselves:

Am I trusted? Have I integrity? What are my acceptable behaviours? Am I honest?
